MoMu Antwerp, BelgiumThese gaiters are part of the “Amazone Costume” ensemble from the MoMu collection, made by german tailor Hermann Hoffmann. Gaiters were typically worn over lower pants and shoes for protection. They are made of light beige linen canvas and feature 8 eyelets for fastening, each paired with a horn button. There is an extra button on the inner side of the right gaiter as well as an extra round-shaped eyelet below the second buttonhole. A leather strap is hand-stitched on the bottom edge to secure the gaiters under the footwear. Inside, a lining provides additional strength and structure. The top and bottom edges are finished with a grosgrain tape on the inside. The visible stitches throughout the gaiters are uniform, highlighting the quality of their construction.
