The challenge for the event is simple: build a (digital) prototype in which this collection comes to life. This can be a 3D reconstruction of an historical object, an animation, a game character dressed in a museum costume, an AR-project… anything goes!

The workshop will revolve around the work of pattern makers, ateliers and companies that copied and sold dozens of patterns from the collections of world-famous ateliers in Paris. And it was no secret!

Centro Superior de Moda de Madrid of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (CSDM-MUP) and the Museo del Traje (CIPE) jointly organize the II International Congress “Tech&Craft 2024” Technology, Craft and Fashion Innovation” to be held on November 12 and 13 at the Museo del Traje CIPE and November 14, 2024, at the CSDMM-UPM.

In this workshop, dedicated to all EFHA members, we will discuss experiences and lessons learned from fashion institutions across Europe on the topic of 3D digitisation for fashion and textile heritage.

The workshop How to reverse engineer a Kamiko 紙衣 , will involve a brief presentation of the research findings of the residency, the ATOPOS archive, and the d_archive. Next we will explore the process of digitizing historical garments. Participants will be invited to learn about the garments themselves as well as the process by trying to reverse-engineer one specific Paper robe (Kamiko 紙) from late 18th century to early 19th century Japan, using paper or other paper-like material.
