(Re)Activating Fashion Archives: Pattern, Process and Digital Reconstruction

Workshop [for RMIT students and staff only!]
This intensive two-day workshop offers a research-led, practice-based investigation into fashion archives through the reconstruction of historical design and production sources. You will work with archival materials from fashion GLAM institutions, including galleries, libraries, archives, and museums, using the National Gallery of Victoria as a key source.
Working in small research teams, you’ll translate archival toiles, patterns, and production documents into digital 3D garment simulations using Clo3D. The focus is not on learning the software itself, but on using your existing technical skills as analytical tools for archival research.
Each team will develop one reconstructed digital garment model, resulting from a collaborative research process that bridges fashion history and digital design.
Workshop Facilitators: Alessandra Varisco (PhD Candidate at Iuav University of Venice, visiting at RMIT’s School of Fashion and Textiles in March 2026)
Martina Ponzoni (Sessional Lecturer at RMIT’s School of Fashion and Textiles and Director of d_archive B.V.)
