About the Hackathon
Following a successful trial edition in 2024, MoMu once again invites you for a weekend of experimentation, creativity and innovation. At Hackathon 2025, the MoMu Study Collection takes centre stage: a unique set of around 2,000 objects – historical garments, regional dress and contemporary fashion – accessible in MoMu’s Library and online.
The challenge is clear: unlock the Study Collection through technology. Whether you create a 3D reconstruction, a game character, an AR project or an interactive animation – the possibilities are endless.
In 2025, we are scaling up. The number of participants grows to 35 and the Hackathon expands into the renowned fashion department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. An international jury of experts will select the winning teams, who will be rewarded with prizes offered by our partners.
Fee
- Student: €80
- Regular: €120
Including lunches, coffee/tea/water, a pizza party on Saturday, a Sunday evening reception and a whole weekend of coaching and inspiration.
Awards
This year, we’re taking it a step further — and adding four prizes to the event! Together with our partners EFHA, Bloomsbury and CLO we’re proud to offer recognition, visibility, mentorship, access to knowledge and tools — and even a cash prize! The awards are offered to all team members of the winning concepts
The EFHA Innovation Prize
At the heart of Europe’s fashion memory lies innovation. The European Fashion Heritage Association (EFHA) — the world’s largest network of fashion museums and archives, uniting over 50 institutions from 15 European countries — wants to celebrate new ways of bringing fashion heritage to life.This is why EFHA will award a €1,000 prize to the team whose digital prototype most creatively reimagines the value of fashion heritage and opens it to new audiences.
The Bloomsbury Prize will be awarded to the concept that best unlocks access to knowledge and history in an innovative way. The winning team receives 3 months of exclusive access to two leading digital resources:
- the Bloomsbury Digital Fashion Masterclasses, created by the Digital Fashion Group;
- the Bloomsbury Fashion Business Cases collection — offering insider expertise, real-world case studies, and a unique bridge between education and industry;
- and, visibility of your project via Bloomsbury’s Fashion Central social media.
The CLO Prize will be awarded to the team that demonstrates the best blend of creativity, innovation, and technical excellence — using CLO to bring their concept to life with strong visual and functional quality. The prize offered includes:
- a one-year free CLO license;
- promotion of your project as a success story on CLO Instagram;
- free access to 1 to 3 CLO official courses or workshops, according to each winning team member’s individual skills, experience, and interests.
The MoMu Hackathon Award
The MoMu Award will be presented by a jury chaired by the museum’s director, Kaat Debo. It will honor the team that demonstrates the most creative and impactful (re)use of the Study Collection — a concept that stands out for its originality and shows genuine potential to make the collection accessible to a broader audience.
The winning concept will be celebrated with:
- a feature on MoMu’s video wall;
- an article in the museum’s magazine;
- dedicated coverage on MoMu’s website (Dries Van Noten Study Center);
- a goodie bag including the exhibition catalogue, 2 free tickets and lunch at the MoMu Café (per team member);
- and, of course, eternal glory as the very first winner of the MoMu Hackathon Award.
