Triple Pleated Blouse

The only surviving piece of this style known to date was found by Mike Harris in 2008 in Nevada (last picture in the gallery above), and acquired by Levi’s to be stored in their permanent archives in San Francisco. The jacket has a boxy fit, and it was meant to be a versatile garment, something in between a shirt and a piece of outwear. It features three knife pleats in the front on each side, secured with three box seams that could be opened to make the jacket roomier; there are also two pleats in the back, a back tab to chinch the waist and two round-bottom pockets on the front, secured with rivets. Its construction shows a one-piece collar, 3/16” and 1/8” twin needle stitching and reverse felled seams.
